Take a step back in time and visit the Hanford Mills Ice Harvest Festival February 1, 2014, in East Meredith, New York.
During the event visitors participate in the century-old tradition of ice harvesting. Using vintage ice saws, large blocks of ice will be harvested from frozen Mill Pond and moved by horse-drawn sled to a traditional ice house. Before refrigeration, the harvested ice was used to preserve produce and other perishable foods during the warmer months of the year.
The festival features activities for the entire family including kids activities, horse-drawn sled rides, a hot soup buffet plus local vendors.
