Spring Festivals Brighten the Destination
The snow is melting and the flowers are blooming as spring enters full swing. See what festivals might be happening around you this April.
Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival: April 13-21. San Francisco. Head to Japantown to celebrate the blooming of cherry blossoms. An annual tradition since 1968.
Chicago Donut Fest 2019: April 6. Chicago. Exactly what it sounds like. A festival devoted to donuts. Runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Old Crow Smokehouse River North. Tickets are $50.
20th Annual Red Poppy Festival: April 26-28, Georgetown, Texas. Texas officially declared Georgetown as the official “Red Poppy Capital” of the state in 1990, but the flower’s roots go back far further. Red poppies have been a consistent part of the landscape here for more than 70 years. The poppies are wildflowers, reseeding themselves every year and blooming in April.
3rd Annual Hero’s Challenge: April 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Salisbury, Maryland. Assemble your team of 10 friends and see how far you can pull a fire truck. Hosted by the Salisbury Police Department with proceeds benefiting the Maryland Special Olympics.
Wine Expo: April 6, from 1 to 5 p.m., Arlington Heights, Illinois. This indoor event promises an afternoon of wine tasting at the Arlington International Racecourse.
1776: April 12 to May 5, Kent, Ohio. Tony award winning musical about the events leading up to the drafting and signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Fiesta San Antonio: April 18-28, San Antonio. The 10-day festival offers a seemingly endless number of parades and the riverfront coated in vibrant colors.
Light City 2019: April 5-13, Baltimore. This unique, international event is a celebration of light, music and innovation.
