All-new Corolla debuts new transmission, sleek body styling
The all-new 2014 Toyota Corolla has a chiseled look to its exterior styling, and with the addition of a new transmission, the vehicle with nearly 50 years of success behind it is designed to get more than 40 mpg on the highway.
The Corolla appeared in Japan in 1966 and helped motorize the country, and the newest Corolla carries on the tradition of the brand, which is the best-selling nameplate on the planet.
Under the Hood
Two fuel-efficient 1.8-liter all-aluminum four cylinder engines are available in the 2014 Corolla. The base model engine generates 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque, and the upgraded engine delivers 140 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque.
A new seven-speed continuously variable transmission is designed to intelligently shift and feel like a standard hydraulic automatic transmission while improving fuel economy to hit the target of more than 40 mpg on the highway.
Comfort and Convenience
Bluetooth connectivity is standard on all Corolla models, as are power door locks with automatic locking, one-touch up/down power window for the driver, air conditioning with a pollen filter and a 60/40 split folding rear seat.
Available features include smart key system, push-button start, paddle shifters and steering wheel-mounted audio system controls, heated front seats, multi-information display, Bluetooth hands-free phone voice-command controls, navigation system and Toyota’s Entune infotainment system.
Safety
Toyota engineers equipped the 2014 Corolla with eight standard airbags, including dual-stage front-passenger airbags and side curtain airbags.
The vehicle stops quickly with power disc brakes with antilock braking system, brake assist and electronic brake force distribution. The braking system includes the standard Smart Stop technology override system. Vehicle stability control and traction control are also standard. Tire pressure monitoring is standard, allowing drivers to ensure their tires are filled to optimal levels for safety and fuel economy.
